SportDOG SDF-100 Fence System
|
Let me first say, I have a stubborn Weimaraner puppy. I was very skeptical about underground fences, but I decided to purchase one anyways. I received the unit and installed it on a nice, warm day. To install, I used a simple garden shovel and pushed the wire under the clump of grass and mud. I had a sidewalk to go under, so I purchased a long piece of metal conduit and used a sledge hammer to pound it under the sidewalk. This required a bit of digging, but I was able to replace the grass and make it look nearly untouched. I would recommend making sure whatever width sidewalk you have, adding about 1 or 2 feet to the length of conduit. When you hammer the conduit, it will obviously angle and if your conduit is only the width of the sidewalk, good luck finding it.
I got the unit up and running, and I have to say, it didn’t take long for my dog to learn where he shouldn’t go. I’m so confident in this fence and my dog, I no longer use the collar unless he’s outside for an extended time.
My unit did malfunction about 3 months into it’s use. I called the customer support and they walked me through a few steps. I called on the weekend and I was on hold for quite some time, but they eventually answered and were very curtious on the phone. They shipped me a new transmitter that week and I sent the broken one back. Since then, I haven’t had a single issue with the fence.
I would HIGHLY recommend this fence to anyone that wants a simple, and effective dog containment system.
